Environmental Management

One of the goals of METROLAB is to minimise the environmental impact of its operation. The company has policies and practices to reduce energy consumption and natural resources use, a recycling programme, and a plan to gradually reduce emissions to the atmosphere. Below are listed the environmental actions undertaken by METROLAB.

1. Reduction of Energy Consumption – Use of Green Energy

  • Gradual replacement of laboratory and office equipment (including laboratory instruments, computers, printers, scanners, refrigerators, air conditioners, light bulbs) with new low-consumption devices.
  • Water heating using solar energy.
  • Using Electric Power from renewable energy sources.

2. Reduction of Gas, Liquid and Solid Waste

  • Gradual replacement of vehicles with hybrid or electric ones, leading to a reduction of gas emissions.
  • Collaboration with an external partner for the collection and recycling of liquid laboratory waste.
  • Gradual reduction of paper use by adopting electronic invoicing and use of electronic communication and archiving systems.
  • Participation in recycling programmes for solid materials, such as:

• Small and large electrical appliances.

• Batteries, light bulbs, and printer ink cartridges.

• Packaging materials and paper.

In 2024, it was decided to integrate into the Management System policies and procedures that lead to compliance with the requirements of ISO 14001 Standard. The Management System was audited and certified to ISO 14001 for the first time in February 2025, by the accredited body TÜV Hellas.
